Kleur speelt voor Bert Braam een belangrijke rol. Tijdens zijn reizen naar de Oriënt, maar ook naar Marokko, Tunesië en Israël, werd hij vooral geboeid door de aardse kleuren van die landen. Het terracotta, het prachtige rood, het warme geel, heeft hij vastgelegd in diverse doeken.
