Marleen Leën studeerde 3 jaar sierkunsten in het M.O met aansluitend Bachelor Plastische Kunsten te Diest  (1970 – 1976)
In 1976 getrouwd met Albrecht Schmitz.
1976-1986 : lid en ondervoorzitter van kunstkring Sakoura Hasselt.
Nam deel aan talrijke groepstentoonstellingen – vooral in de provincie Limburg met hoofdzakelijk grafisch werk.
1976-1982 : te werk gesteld in het M.O. in diverse scholen.
1977 : individuele tentoonstelling Hof ten Rode Diest.
1982 : geboorte zoon Wouter.
1983   : opdracht van het St. Jozefscollege te Hasselt voor de decoratie van de aula met monumentale muurschilderingen.
Vanaf 1984 vele buitenlandse reizen, vooral in Azië, voor zakelijke doeleinden. (Hong-Kong, Macau, China, Thailand, Filipijnen, Singapore). De invloed hiervan is soms in haar werk zichtbaar.
Hoewel vroeger vooral grafisch werk is er vanaf 1990 een totale ommekeer naar acryl op doek en liefst op groot formaat.
1993 :   aansluiting bij Kunstkring Alde-Biezen Rijkhoven.
April 1993 : individuele tentoonstelling in Galerij Het Borgerhoff in Alt-Hoeselt.
Mei 1993 : tentoonstelling in 4 banken in Bilzen (ASLK, GB, KB en BBL).
Juni   1993   : individuele tentoonstelling in de BBL in Tongeren.
Aug. 1993 : openluchttentoonstelling   in het Sterrebos te Stevoort.
Juni 1994 : individuele tentoonstelling in het Museum voor Moderne Kunst te Dobrich, Bulgarije onder de auspiciën van de Belgische Ambassade.
Juli 1994 : individuele tentoonstelling in de Stadsgalerij te Razgrad, Bulgarije onder de auspiciën van de Belgische Ambassade.
Aug. 1994 : individuele tentoonstelling in het “Centrum voor de Kunst” te Pleven, Bulgarije onder de auspiciën van de Belgische Ambassade.
Aug. 1994 :   openluchttentoonstelling   in het Sterrebos te Stevoort.
Sept. 1994 : individuele tentoonstelling in de “stedelijke Galerij voor Beeldende Kunsten” te Rousse, Bulgarije onder de auspiciën van de Belgische Ambassade.
Maart 1996 : individuele tentoonstelling in Kunsthoeve ’t poorthof te Riemst.
Sept. 1996 : tentoonstelling in galerie de Kei (Nuenen-Nederland).
Mei 1999 : tentoonstelling   in galerie de Kei (Nuenen-Nederland).
Nov.-dec. 1999  : galerij Simon Stevens  Brugge.
Juli 2000 : International Salon des Artistes  Bourbonne-les-Bains. (Frankrijk)
Moest noodgedwongen door ziekte stoppen met intensief schilderen.
Ze heeft nu haar oude liefde terug opgepakt en is opnieuw fulltime bezig met abstracte werken.
Mei 2016 solo : De Oude Barrier Hasselt (Wimmertingen).
Oktober 2016 : Symbiose van Kunst en Design in samenwerking met Design Hermans Hasselt.

Marleen Leën studied decorative arts for 3 years in secondary education, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Plastic Arts in Diest (1970 – 1976).
Married Albrecht Schmitz in 1976.
1976-1986: member and vice-chairman of the Sakoura Hasselt art circle.
Took part in numerous group exhibitions – especially in the province of Limburg, mainly with graphic work.
1976-1982: employed in secondary education in various schools.
1977: individual exhibition Hof ten Rode Diest.
1982: birth of son Wouter.
1983: commission from the St. Jozefscollege in Hasselt to decorate the auditorium with monumental murals.
From 1984 onwards, many foreign trips, especially in Asia, for business purposes. (Hong Kong, Macau, China, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore). The influence of this is sometimes visible in her work.
Although previously mainly graphic work, there has been a complete change to acrylic on canvas and preferably in large format since 1990.
1993: joining the Art Circle Alde-Biezen Rijkhoven.

Forced to stop intensive painting due to illness.
She has now picked up her old love again and is once again working fulltime on abstract works.
