Arturo Carmassi werd geboren in Lucca (Italië) en was schilder, tekenaar, beeldhouwer en graveur. Hij begon zijn werk in 1925. Hij volgde een opleiding aan de Albertina Academie in Turijn en hield daar zijn eerste persoonlijke tentoonstellingen. In 1952 verhuisde hij naar Milaan, waar hij werkte als leider van de informele schilderkunst. Momenteel woont hij in Torre di Fucecchio, in Toscane (Italië), waar hij zijn diverse artistieke activiteiten ontplooit. In 2003 werden bij Christie’s Milaan enkele van zijn werken verkocht waaronder het doek ‘Senza titolo’ voor $ 14.698.

He studied at the Albertina Academy in Turin and held his first personal exhibitions there. In 1952 he moved to Milan, where he worked as a leader of informal painting. He currently lives in Torre di Fucecchio, in Tuscany (Italy), where he develops his diverse artistic activities. Carmassi, one of the great Italian artists of today, has one of the most intense pictorial activities, mediated by a no less continuous creation in the field of sculpture and graphics. In fact, the artist has transferred his myths, his obsessions and his “theatre” to other techniques. He has won numerous international awards and his works are part of prestigious public and private collections. Since 1955 he has taken part in the most important exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including: the III International Biennial of São Paulo; IInd International Biennial for Youth in Paris, France (1955); IVth Biennial “Sculpture in the City”, Antwerp (1958); Biennale of Graphic Arts, Venice, Italy (1960); XXXIst Venice Art Biennale (1962); IVth International Biennale of Sculpture, Carrara, Italy; Vth San Marino Art Biennale (1965); XXVIIth Milan Art Biennale, Italy (1968); IXth Biennale of Mediterranean Art, Egypt (1971); IInd Triennial of Engraving, Milan; Xth Quadrennial of Italian Art, Rome (1972); Xylon 7, Freiburg, Berlin, Lugano, São Paulo – Winterthur (1975); Xth Tokyo International Art Biennale (1976); “Journal Perpetuel da Arturo Carmassi”, Museum of Fine Arts of Rome, Lausanne and São Paulo (1978).
In 2003, several of his works were sold at Christie’s Milan, including the canvas ‘Senza titolo’ for $14,698.
