Maaike Alma is een veelzijdige Nederlandse beeldend kunstenaar die zich vooral manifesteert als graficus, schilder en installatiekunstenaar. Na haar opleiding aan de kunstacademie ontwikkelde zij een eigenzinnige, heldere beeldtaal die figuratieve en abstracte elementen op natuurlijke wijze met elkaar verbindt.

Haar werk is geworteld in een diepgaande fascinatie voor de aarde en haar omgeving – van landschap tot lucht en sterrenhemel. Alma reist, observeert, onderzoekt en registreert voortdurend; deze processen vormen de kern van haar artistieke praktijk. Zij legt veranderingen in licht en lijn vast door fotografie en video en creëert zelfs virtuele tekeningen in het landschap met behulp van gps-technologie.

Als graficus is Alma internationaal erkend om haar technische beheersing van de droge naaldets en koperdruk. Haar series etsen getuigen van een scherp oog voor detail en een verfijnd gevoel voor compositie en textuur.

Het werk van Maaike Alma is te zien in talrijke prestigieuze collecties, waaronder die van het Museum voor Moderne Kunst Arnhem, de provincies Gelderland en Utrecht, de gemeenten Wageningen en Best, de Universiteit Stockholm, Wageningen Universiteit, ABN AMRO en Coopers & Lybrands. Zij exposeerde onder meer bij Galerie Vermezzo in Milaan, Stroom Den Haag, het Singer Museum, Grafiek Nu in Laren, het Gemeentemuseum Arnhem, de Grafiekbiënnale in Taiwan en diverse andere galeries en instellingen in Nederland en daarbuiten.

Naast haar autonome werk maakte Alma illustraties voor publicaties en realiseerde zij tijdelijke installaties die de ruimtelijke ervaring van bijzondere locaties onderzoeken. Haar oeuvre kenmerkt zich door een voortdurende dialoog tussen waarneming, registratie en verbeelding.

Maaike Alma is a versatile Dutch visual artist who primarily manifests herself as a printmaker, painter, and installation artist. After her training at art academy, she developed a distinctive, clear visual language that naturally connects figurative and abstract elements.

Her work is rooted in a profound fascination with the earth and its surroundings—from landscape to sky and the starry heaven. Alma travels, observes, investigates, and records continuously; these processes form the core of her artistic practice. She captures changes in light and line through photography and video and even creates virtual drawings in the landscape using GPS technology.

As a printmaker, Alma is internationally recognized for her technical mastery of drypoint etching and copperplate printing. Her series of etchings demonstrate a keen eye for detail and a refined sense of composition and texture. The work of Maaike Alma can be seen in numerous prestigious collections, including those of the Museum of Modern Art Arnhem, the provinces of Gelderland and Utrecht, the municipalities of Wageningen and Best, Stockholm University, Wageningen University, ABN AMRO, and Coopers & Lybrands.
